New Concept Posture Training Effective for Postural Correction

With the rise of computers in daily life and increasing smartphone use even among young elementary students, more people across all age groups—students studying for long hours in poor posture, office workers, and others—are experiencing posture-related issues such as forward head syndrome and scoliosis.

When body imbalance occurs, the pelvis tilts, causing systemic blood circulation problems that eventually stiffen the neck and shoulders. This can lead to straight neck syndrome, facial asymmetry, scoliosis, and bowlegs. It is also a contributing factor to lower body and abdominal obesity.

Signs such as uneven shoe wear, one shoulder being lower when standing straight, differences in leg length when lying down, and variations in the angle of foot spread are visible indicators of body imbalance. Such imbalances bring about diverse systemic problems.

To address this, a new exercise center opened in Dunsan that allows rehabilitation patients suffering from musculoskeletal imbalance and individuals with weak stamina—who find it difficult to exercise vigorously—to train safely with posture management.

Bareun Exercise Sling Center (CEO Oh Ha-gyun) operates the NPT (Natural Posture Training) system using slings to reduce physical stress while combining exercise and posture management education to help restore muscle strength and stamina.

Sling Exercise Strengthens Deep Muscles

Sling exercise uses specially made ropes hung from the ceiling, allowing the patient’s body to be suspended in the air while performing self-directed movements. Originating during World War II for treating injured soldiers in the UK and Germany, the program was further developed in 1991 by Norwegian doctors and physical therapists.

The key advantage is that the weight-bearing load is minimized, enabling exercise with minimal effort without stressing the joints. It improves muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and effectively corrects body imbalances.

Unlike other forms of exercise, sling training involves minimal force, so there is no post-exercise pain, making it suitable even for those with low stamina. Bareun Exercise Sling Center, a distributor of Marpe Co., Ltd.’s Power Sling, also serves as the Daejeon branch of the Korea Association for Lifestyle and Health Promotion (KALF), promoting posture management and sling exercise education.

CEO Oh Ha-gyun states, “The core benefit of sling exercise therapy is strengthening the deep muscles.”

Deep muscles stabilize the skeletal alignment and balance but are hard to strengthen through typical muscle-building exercises because they are not visible externally. These deep muscles support the spine and are often linked to visceral function issues. Strengthening them helps restore the spine and pelvis to their correct positions, reducing causes of imbalance.

Oh adds, “Combining sling exercise with posture management is highly effective in correcting imbalance caused by poor posture, while also training the body to remember and adjust to correct posture through exercise. A crooked or bent body can grow taller and achieve a beautiful figure simply through proper posture management that straightens the spine.”
